2018/2019 Scholarship Information
This scholarship was created to aid Niagara County students who are pursuing a career in music. Students must be attending a NCMEA member school and be a candidate for graduation in June of 2019. In order to be considered for the scholarship 4 items must be presented to the NCMEA Vice President:
- Completed NCMEA scholarship application (available in September)
- Official high school transcripts
- A letter of recommendation from one of the student’s high school music instructors
All materials must be POSTMARKED by November 26, 2018. No applications will be considered after the deadline.
The scholarship adjudicators will review the applications and hold interviews and auditions on January 8, 2019, at North Tonawanda High School. These appointments will be scheduled once all application materials have been processed. Each applicant will be sent/emailed an audition packet containing his or her audition time and pertinent information regarding the process. In the event of inclement weather the auditions will be held the following January 15, 2019.
There are no restrictions in regards to musical literature for the audition. A student’s college audition selections will be suitable for consideration. However, the audition piece must be presented as the composer conceived it. Students must audition with accompaniment if the composition was written that way. Please be aware that NCMEA will not provide an accompanist for the scholarship auditions. Students should arrange their accompaniment for the performance and need to keep the accompanist informed of all times and locations. CD accompaniments are acceptable, but are not recommended. As per NCMEA and NYSSMA regulations, no photocopied music may be used. You must provide two original copies for the judges. In addition to auditioning in their major area of performance, applicants may perform a brief selection (3-5 minutes maximum) on a minor instrument, as time allows, or submit evidence of other musical skills (i.e. music composition).
